Property Description

Designed by award-winning architect Jim Engh and opened in 2004, True North was quickly dubbed a "must play" by golfers all over Michigan and the country. The major golf publications have been singing its praises as well. In 2010, Golf Digest named True North the 4th best course you can play in the Great Lakes state.

Located mere minutes from the massive expanse of Lake Michigan, True North is wonderfully routed through acres of hardwoods and pine trees. In addition, like the waves on the nearby shores of Little Traverse Bay, the terrain rises and falls. Dramatic elevation changes of up to 100 feet are fairly frequent, providing both breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside and exhilarating tee shots. Also common at True North is a strong sense of solitude, and for good reason: not only is every hole lined with trees, the entire facility is bordered on three sides by hundreds of acres of state and conservancy land that will never be developed. And then there's the wildlife: birds of all sizes and colors-whitetail deer, red fox, and, at night, the occasional black bear. Perhaps best of all, True North is as playable as it is pretty.

To make it more enjoyable for golfers of all abilities, there are four sets of tees that range between 7,027 and 4,834 yards. To make it more interesting there is one hole with two parallel fairways. Different? Absolutely. Fun to play? You bet. But True North can be a stern test, too. There are 41 strategically placed bunkers (including several of Mr. Engh's signature serpentine-shaped bunkers), water is in play on six of the holes, and there are 18 challenging and beautifully conditioned greens.

Speaking about the True North site, Mr. Engh said, "The land here is of exceptional quality and the topography and sandy soils are reminiscent of the sites where golf was first played. Add to that the dense Michigan forest and we had the opportunity to create something special."

Once you experience True North for yourself, we think you'll agree that he did just that.
